Indonesian state-owned aircraft maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), together with PT Vela Prima Nusantara and startup Intercrus Aero, has unveiled two electric aircraft (eVTOL) models:
Vela Alpha - manned electric plane for 6 passengers + pilot
Intercrus Sola - a more compact model designed for 2-4 passengers, without runways (can launch even from ships or in hard-to-reach places)
Stages of implementation
2026 - the start of Vela Alpha test flights
2027 - Expected certification (DGCA in Indonesia, potentially FAA)
2028 - commencement of commercial operations in Bali
It is expected that the first flights will start specifically from Bali
Cost of travel and accessibility
Ticket price: Starts from 400,000 IDR (~26 USD) per person - conveniently comparable to a traditional cab, but much faster
Reservation Model: through a mobile app - like Uber, but in the sky, with a pilot at the helm.
Targeted customers: tourists, business passengers, and private and public services.
PTDI and its partners have created an international roadmap from testing to market launch. If all goes according to plan, Bali could indeed become a place where "the sky replaces the traffic jam on the road".
